On Monday, First Lady Casey DeSantis held a discussion about the alarming increase in youth suicide and called for members to work with their agencies to develop new ideas to amplify and analyze the state’s response to the epidemic.

DeSantis, who serves as chair of the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet, has been a strong advocate for addressing and diagnosing mental health issues early.

In Florida, death by suicide is the eighth-leading cause of death among all ages but is the fourth-leading cause of death among ages 5-14 and the third-leading cause of death among ages 15-24.
