Every year it seems like medical bills in Florida climb higher and bring insurance rates up along with them. Unfortunately, loopholes in our civil justice system are a big reason why.
Right now, there are many ways for trial lawyers to misrepresent the costs of medical damages in court. Often, our Florida courts aren’t allowed to see how much a patient paid for treatment, meaning it’s impossible to accurately award damages. Plaintiff lawyers even force medical providers to sign agreements called “letters of protection” before a lawsuit even begins that further mask the true costs of treatment.
